Call Costs Report

The Call Costs Report shows call volumes and costs across your billing operation. Use it to analyse margins, compare carrier costs, and review call spending by customer or number.

When to Use This Report

  • Check retail vs wholesale call costs and margins
  • Compare costs across carriers
  • Review call volumes and spending by customer, number, or call type
  • Find calls with unusually low or negative margins

Filters

For general guidance on running reports and using filters, see Using Reports.

Date Range

  • Invoice Date On or After / Before — filter by the invoice date
  • Call Date On or After / Before — filter by when the call was made
  • Wholesale Billing Period — filter by wholesale billing period

Carrier

  • Carrier (CDR) — the carrier from the call data record
  • Call Carrier — the carrier assigned to the call after processing
  • CDR File Types — filter by the type of call data file

Call Details

  • Call Classes / Call Groups / Call Types — filter by how calls are classified
  • Locations — filter by call location
  • Discount Plans — filter by discount plan applied to the call
  • Duration (seconds) — minimum and maximum call duration
  • Cost (pence) — minimum and maximum call cost
  • Margin (pence) — minimum and maximum margin
  • Margin (%) — minimum and maximum margin percentage

Other Options

  • Billed — choose All, Billed, or Unbilled calls
  • Billing Run — filter by customer billing run
  • Legs vs Calls — report by individual call legs or combined calls
  • CDR Extension — filter by CDR extension field
  • Suppress Free to Caller — hide calls with no charge to the customer

Output Types

  • On Screen — standard tabular view with cost and margin columns
  • CSV Output — full data export for spreadsheet analysis
  • Summary (By Feature Type) — totals grouped by feature type
  • Summary (By Feature/Transaction Type) — totals grouped by feature and transaction type
  • Summary (By Customer) — totals grouped by customer
  • Summary (By Number) — totals grouped by number
  • Print — print-friendly layout

Tips

  • Use the Margin filters to quickly find calls with low or negative margins that may need attention.
  • The Legs vs Calls option matters for calls with multiple legs. Choose Calls for a business view or Legs for detailed carrier analysis.
  • Compare carriers by running the report twice with different carrier filters, or use the Summary (By Customer) output to see totals.
