Using GoCardless

Once your GoCardless account is connected, the platform uses it to collect Direct Debit and Instant Bank Pay payments from your customers.

Direct Debits

Manage customer mandates, send payment links, and collect payments automatically or manually. For full guidance, see Direct Debit Accounts.

Instant Bank Pay

GoCardless also supports one-off bank payments via Open Banking. These typically have lower fees and faster settlement than card payments. See Instant Bank Pay for details.

Expected Payments

Control payment amounts and track upcoming collections using Expected Payments.

Common Tasks

Collect payment for a single invoice: If on-delivery collection is enabled, emailing or downloading the invoice triggers collection automatically. Otherwise, view the invoice and use Collect Payment from the Expert menu (Expert Mode) to submit immediately. Bank processing takes 3-5 working days after submission. For faster settlement, use Instant Bank Pay. See Collecting a Specific Invoice for the full workflow.

Check payment status: View the payment record to see its current stage (Pending, Processing, Collected, or Failed). See Payment Status for details.

Handle a failed collection: The system creates a TODO when a collection fails. You can retry by using Collect Payment on the invoice or by submitting a new collection from the payment record. See Direct Debit Accounts for full guidance.
